The main advantage of Virtual Organization is found in implication of outsourcing. Consider the following case: Traditional companies, at the beginning, put scarce money into buying or building necessary facilities, and after some time get into financial trouble. Additionally, they have to pay for maintenance and operating the equipment. Isn't it just better to save that valuable money and invest it in product/service improvement and customer relationship management..
disadvantages of virtual organizational structure.. 1/ lack of appropriate theories and formal modeling tools, inconsistent paradigm, and hard to organize the components’ relationships in a virtual organization.
It removes many barriers - especially that of time and location.
It emphasizes concentrating on new services and products, especially those with intensive information and knowledge characteristics, rather than concentrating on cost savings made possible by removing the barriers.
emphasizes the use of knowledge to create new products and services .
Disadvantage :
Problems in the communication and coordination Cause stop working .
In this era of globalization many companies all around the world started using “Virtual organizational structure”. As everything in this world has its own advantages and disadvantages, virtual organizational structure is not an exception of that. Advantages of Virtual organizational structure:
1.Saving money: When a company uses Virtual organizational structure they can employ workers from different and on the same time pay fewer salaries to them. For example, employees from India would work for a less salary than an employee from Europe. Companies also can save money because they don’t need to have a building for their employee that includes electricity, internet, phone lines, etc.
2.Time saving: When a company uses virtual organizational structure that gives them the opportunity to finish the work in less time. Employee wouldn’t have to rush to work and get stuck in traffic to arrive on time and finish whatever work they have. The employees could benefit from the waiting time by doing their work at home.
3.Since there is no need to travel from a city to another or a country to another, a company can employ more experts that can work as a part time workers and share their views and ideas with the rest of the staff. Companies will end up getting more benefits than they could normally get.
4.Stress free environment. Employees can work with less stress and pressure that results in better working results and more enjoyment.
Disadvantages of Virtual organizational structure:
1.The need of high technology equipment’s. Since there is no real building companies will need a high level of communications software’s to keep track of all the work that the employees do. Unfortunately, communication software’s are expensive and on the same time needs a group to manage them and solve any problems that may arise. Not to mention the trouble and lose that the company might get if somehow the software didn’t work.
2.Managing difficulties. The manager power and authority that play a big part in normal companies don’t have a part anymore in virtual organizations that leaves the company with the need to work harder with making decisions and managing the company business .
3.One of the biggest problems that workers in virtual organization might face is the lake of trust between them and their work mates. It is clear that workers build their trust with others by meeting with them and knowing the person they are talking to. In the case of virtual organization, the only connection will mostly be throw the service provider and that might make the workers consider not to share everything they have.
*enables the sharing of costs and skills. *enhances access to global markets. *increases market responsiveness. *creates a "best of everthing" organization since each partner brings core competencies to the alliance. *encourges both individual and organizational knowledge sharing and accelerates organiztional learning.
Disadvantages...
*harder to determine where one company ends and another begins, due to close interdependencies among players. *leads to potential loss of operational control among partners. *results in loss of strategic control over emerging technology. *requires new and difficult-to-aquire managerial skills.
{Poor development practices} Incorrect assumptions with regard to system requirements. Poor user interface. Faulty hardware. Inadequate user training/ user error. Poor fit between systems and organisation
formal organization is a fixed set of rules of intra-organization procedures and structures. As such, it is usually set out in writing, with a language of rules that ostensibly leave little discretion for interpretation. In some societies and in some organization, such rules may be strictly followed; in others, they may be little more than an empty formalism. Advantages: In formal organization goals are clearly defined, suitable for all type of businesses, task done in time, objective will be clear, Disadvantages: doesn't allow flexibility, doesn't allow long term planing, lesson the scope of creativity
The advantages of using Virtual Organizational Structure are: 1- Allows work to be separated from location and time. 2- Work can be done anywhere, anytime! 3- People might never meet physically, which explains the use of the word virtual. 4- a Virtual organization is geographically distributed, and uses information technology to communicate and coordinate the work. 5- Allows collaborate work, in which managers and employees can effectively work in groups, even those composed of members from around the world.
The disadvantages are: 1- Teams still need face to face meetings, especially at the beginnings of new projects. 2- lack of trust between the workers and the members. 3-they need a high level of technology to communicate with each other and in some countries, they just can't afford it. 4-lack of responsibility in their work, coz some of them can't control their lives. 5- some of the members or the employees can't manage their time and separate it from their daily life,or their free time,it gets harder to manage, not like going to the office and finishing all the work you have, then getting back home!
Advantages: - be flexible - work anytime and place - save energy disadvantages : - there willnot be face to face meeting - spend most of the time in work
1- The main advantage of Virtual Organization is found in implication of outsourcing. 2- saving money ,becuse that they don't have to pay for built a building and it's facilities 3- Flexibility : Changes in environment do not bother Virtual Organizations, because it is easy to them to switch. 4- when something goes wrong it easy to deal with it .
disadvatanges:
1- The greatest barrier is competitive concerns over information leakage. 2- it's hard because its complex system .
